The Full-Time Feather
We never wanted a cup run anyway.
Carabao Cup · Third round
Chelsea vs Leeds. A game of two halves.
First half, Leeds United showed exactly what we’re about: resilient, organised, battling for everything and giving Chelsea a proper game.
Second half? Chelsea apparently decided enough was enough and brought on roughly £250 million worth of footballers. Slight change in personnel, you could say.
Then there was the soft penalty for Chelsea, which apparently wasn’t quite soft enough to be given when pretty much the same thing happened at the other end in Leeds’ favour. Funny how that works.
Our goalkeeper, meanwhile, looked like the bloke who turns up to five-a-side and gets handed the gloves because Goalkeeper No. 1 has pulled out. His approach to shot-stopping was an interesting one — seemingly trying to save the ball using telekinesis rather than actually getting his hands on it.
But this isn’t the game that will define our season.
And, if we’re being completely honest, we never really wanted a cup run anyway.
Better to save the money for next season, when we’re all following the mighty Leeds around Europe in the Europa Conference League, culminating in an unnecessarily complicated journey to Croatia to face Hajduk Split on a Thursday night.
That’s where the real memories are made.
