A point at the Amex? Ta very much.
Premier League
Brighton 1–1 Leeds United. I’ll take that, ta very much.
Our recent trips to the Amex have generally had all the enjoyment of standing outside in February waiting for a train that’s already been cancelled — something Manchester United fans apparently know all about. A point feels like a decent result.
Brighton deserve credit. Properly well run, intelligent recruitment, a clear identity: frankly, showing off. I’d be surprised if they don’t win something in the next few years. Probably the Europa Conference League, like, but a trophy’s a trophy.
Compared with some corresponding results last season, there are encouraging signs. Are Leeds evolving into an established Premier League side? Or are the “mid-tablers” just having early-season jitters before normal service resumes?
Ask me again at Christmas. Preferably after a win.
Big praise for Ao Tanaka. That was the best I’ve seen him play for some time: composed, intelligent and influential. A reminder of just how good he can be.
Then there’s the squad. Farke has wanted genuine depth and options for a long time. Now he seems to have them. He can look at a game, decide something isn’t working and change it BEFORE the 70th minute. Revolutionary stuff at Leeds United.
You’d expect changes for Chelsea in midweek, and hopefully some minutes for the new lads. Bard being one.
A point on the road, a deeper squad, Tanaka looking like Tanaka again, and Leeds potentially becoming a sensible Premier League football club.
Steady on. That last bit might be getting carried away.
